So this week was pretty dang awesome. We did a lot of work. Had some rough times but the good times outweighed the bad.
First off, we got another baptismal date yesterday!! D, is a Polish woman that I contacted on the street and we talked to her about the purpose of life. She said family and learning and all these great things and we told her that's what our church teaches and that we have a book that has helped us to find these meanings in life and it answers these hard questions about where we come from, why we are here, and what happens after we die. She agreed to meet and we were super stoked about it cause we could tell she was genuine. We made out an appt for the next day and went there but she wasnt there. BUMMER. Appts fall out all the time but we were extra stoked for this one. We went back the next day and figured she wasn't there cause her mailbox was still stuffed full of newspapers.... but she answered! We had to go quick but we made out another appt for the next day. So the next day, yesterday, we finally got to teach her. I've never seen someone so ready to accept the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. She was sooo attentive and all of her questions went right along with the lessons. We ended up teaching shortened versions of the first three lessons. Everything just made sense to her. It was amazing to see. We committed her to be baptized in a month. AWESOME!!! She acutally lives like right by us. Like literally one block. All this time she has been ready but we got to find her and bring her this wonderful message.
That was obviously the highlight of the week, but there were so many more awesome things that happened. We were able to teach a member last night to reach our lesson goal. We were able to reach our finding goal late last night as well. The Lord continues to bless us as we work to bless these people here in H. Goals are awesome and the Lord helps you reach them!
One tender mercy the Lord gave us is he let us run into this asian guy we always run into. We had just got dropped by a new investigator, and were street contacting. Each person in a row was like extra rude. Making fun of our german and one lady told me she had more faith than I have and all I had said was "excuse me, my colliege and I...." so basically we were having a depressing morning, but the Lord sent us this asian guy to cheer us up. He is soooo asian and is just a hilarious guy and we talked with him about how life isn't fair. He said he was going to go home and drink and we told him that wouldn't help, that he should read in his BOM instead. He didn't give us a real answer but it was so fun to talk to him and it brought our spirits and his spirits up too. I thanked God afterwards.
Our investigators are for the most part doing well. We had a really spiritual lesson with J and with G and have got C back on track for baptism. A is praying every night now, and JH is noticably happier lately as we have talked a lot about the atonement's power to help us. Nothing huge to report and I don't have much time left. Things are going pretty well with the investigators. Just gotta get them to keep committments better and bring the spirit. Through the little things we hope to help these people make big changes.
Really out of time now so i'll just leave a spiritual thought. I'd like to share some things I studied this week. I tried to focus on the Christlike attribute Knowledge. We are commanded to seek learning, even by study and also by faith, and to read out of the best books. I can honestly say the Book of Mormon is my favorite book. I studied about the sons of Mosiah, they were the most awesome missionaries there was, and I got a ton out of Alma 17:2-3. It says they were men of a sound understanding, because they searched the scriptures dilligently that they might know the words of God. That is important that we know what the scriptures say. We need to apply our minds to studying. The next part is what really struck me. "but this is not all, they had given themselves to much prayer and fasting, therefore they had the Spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with the power and authority of God." They did more than study with their mind, they applied faith, they applied their hearts to learning through prayer and fasting. I wrote this in my journal, "this deeper level of understanding, the spiritual level, allowed them to have prophecies and revelations. Knowledge was given from on high because they applied their spirits, not just their brains, to learning. We must apply our heart and our minds, to recieve these things. When we obtain this deeper, more complete, knowledge of gospel doctrines, we can teach with God's power and authority, because we understand things the way He understands them, because He sent us these revelations and prophecies from His archives of true spiritual understanding." I know right. I don't usually talk like that. I received revelation about receiving revelation. hahaha Ya it blew my mind too. It's an exciting thing! When you really apply your mind and heart in your study it's way fun and valuable.
So ya that's it for this week. This gospel is true. It can help anyone and everyone if they give it a chance. I know it. I love it. Until next week!
